計画は、東京大田区の閑静な住宅街で、単身女性の為のマンションリフォーム。
我々は、マンションのようにスケルトンの決まった空間のリフォームにおいてその“スケルトンの持つ力”に着目した。
インフラと直結したスケルトンは都市的スケールを持つ物とし捉え、また、身体と直結した家具などは、
身体的スケールから生活をサポートする物となる。
その両者の中間にある物から発想したリフォームの提案である。
スケルトンの内部に凹凸を作り、ワンルーム空間の中にヴォリュームによる行為の領域を作り出す。
そうして新たに作られるヴォリュームは、スケルトンと同じスケール感を持つ。
このヴォリュームを、生活をサポートする物（家具的な物）へと変換する。
この時、人とそれらとにスケール的なギャップが起こる。
しかし、この大きすぎると思われるスケールが生活に“余白”を生み出す。
このように、スケルトンの一部として作られるヴォリュームを家具のように扱うことで、
我々はスケールのずれが生み出す“余白”を生活に織り交ぜようとした。
すると今まで「丁度良い」として疑われることなく使われてきた空間と家具の生活に、違った質の快適さが発生する。
つまり、「帯に短し、襷に長し」の様な空間は、実は新たな生活習慣を生み出す物となるのである。
The skeleton of this apartment relates to the urban scale of the city. Furniture is related to the human scale.
Our inspiration for this renovation project in Tokyo’s Ota Ward came from the conflict of these two scales.
The city is built around an urban framework that does not necessarily relate to the human scale. It is based on modules, street widths, services and city regulations.
The apartment plays with the fact that the human body has become accustomed to living in the city. The scale of the furniture in the apartment is based on the scale of the apartment skeleton rather than on the human scale. By adding an irregularity, a “Bump” that fits into the shell of the apartment, it automatically becomes a part of the scale of the building skeleton. In some cases the scale appears, at first, to be too large for human use. But these oversized spaces can provide a blank canvas for the unpredictability of daily life.
A new comfort arises from the space which is different from the spaces we usually inhabit.
The re-creation of a space with the character of an urban framework to a scale appropriate for human use leads to a new way of living.
